Sample Itinerary – to give you an idea!

Day 1

You bring your own group and arrive into Edinburgh or Glasgow Airport where your driver/guide meets you and whisks you up north. Our first stop is in the lovely old Victorian town of Pitlochry, where you can see heather being made into jewellery or just explore this pretty historic town. Have  time for lunch in an old mill or even a palace. Then up into highland Scotland, passing Ruthven Barracks, then  Inverness where you stay for two nights, relax and explore or walk along the banks of River Ness under the old castle.  You may be tired after a long journey but we will make recommendations for dinner either before you leave home or today.

Day 2

Cullodden Battlefield

This morning we take you to Culloden Battlefield, the scene of the only defeat of Bonnie Prince Charlie.  The video is excellent and really makes the exhibition come alive.  It’s an eerie place with over 3000 people being slaughtered in not much over an hour.  A mile away see  0ver 5,000 years of Celtic history, standing stones and burial cairns. Your choice this afternoon, Cawdor Castle and gardens, explore the wee harbours of the Moray coast or sample a dram or two in a Scottish distillery. Overnight Inverness. We work with you so you get whatever you want from today.  Plenty of options for dinner and you may like to listen to some traditional music, just ask us.

Day 3

Urquart Castle

Today we guide you along the Great Glen (Loch Ness) stopping at Urquhart Castle (we’ll tell you about the Maclean connection) and on to Fort William.  Then we take lunch at the Spean Bridge Woollen Mill, you can also help yourself to a complimentary dram as we are driving.  We then cross Loch Linnhe with a second ferry from Lochaline to the isle of Mull.

Day 4

This morning we spend a full day guiding you on an island tour. We first head to Calgary Bay (where many Canadian’s sailed from over a hundred years ago).  If it is sunny we can take a wee walk on the beach.  We go over mountains and moors, pass ochs and glens then past Ulva where you can take a wee ferry to the island.  If the weather is nice it is a lovely wee place to take lunch and the ferry is only £5.  We continue on the coastal route and visit Iona and Staffa (which would have to be booked approx £30) if you wish. Return to Tobermory.

 Day 5

Duart Castle

THE CLAN MACLEAN GATHERING. This morning we take you down to Duart Castle where you spend as long as you wish at the Clan Maclean Gathering. On the return to Tobermory we show you the graves of naughty Macleans! Your final night in Tobermory to attend the clan events – if you have pre booked tickets.  If not, there are a couple of really nice restaurants but you would need to book before you left home as Tobermory will be very busy.  A lovely seafood cafe with their own boat, that’s our favourite, but just ask for ideas.

Day 6

We leave Mull on a different ferry, this time from Criaignure to Oban, passing Lady Rock, which you will learn about at Duart Castle.  You can take as long as you wish in this the seafood capital of Scotland.  We can make recommendations for restaurants of pubs or just wander around the wee pier eating as you go.  We’ll take the best route and where to stop as you  head to the Victorian town of Pitlochry where you spend two nights.  This is a lovely tourist town with nice shops.  Ask us for ideas.

Day 7

Whisky Bar

Choices again today: we suggest a day of touring to Braemar (where royalty attend the Braemar Gathering), there is fantastic scenery passing through a winter ski resort. You can also visit Braemar Castle. Return to Pitlochry (where we had lunch the first day). There are plenty of restaurants and local pubs in this quaint Victorian town.

Day 8

Holyrood Palace
We drive you to Edinburgh, stopping en route or direct, your choice. You will pass Perth which was one the Capital of Scotland, here we have Scone Palace.  We end in Edinburgh, our capital city where your driver leaves you. We give you recommendations where to eat, drink, visit etc in your presentation tour notes and can make any dinner reservations in advance.  It’s a fantastic city to walk about.

Day 9

St Giles Cathedral on the Royal Mile
A free day to explore the city in all its’ glory. It is very much a walking city, sample an underground ghost tour, take in the local pubs, the museums are all free of charge, see Edinburgh Castle, the list is endless. Your final night in Scotland, before a taxi to the airport for your flight home in the morning, or extend your tour with us, the choice is yours. Please ask us for ideas. If you are flying from Glasgow you will need one final night at either Glasgow city or the airport and a train from Edinburgh, we can arrange this for you.
