Glasgow Green Fridayu 16th August: Grade 1 competition. Saturday 17th: All grades. Two days of competition showcases the extraordinary ability of over 8,000 pipers and drummers taking part (don’t forget the Pipe Majors!). Defending champions Field Marshal Montgomery (Northern Ireland) will face bands from around the world as they try to hang on to their crown. The Worlds is the ultimate test of the skill and ability of the pipers and drummers that take part. Every band is striving for the perfect performance that will carry them to the title of World Champions. Aye but … they get once chance of around 5 minutes to prove their ability mostly, having attended for over 20 years, I know what gives and what happens. Some of the judges are totally biased, marking inferior bands higher as they use equipment sold by that judge, just ask any grade one band. It can be very political.  But don’t let these things get in the way of entertainment, the whole two days are spectacular, go see for yourself!  It is super friendly.

The World Pipe Band Championships take place on Glasgow Green, a park situated in the east end of Glasgow on the north bank of the River Clyde. It is the oldest park in the city dating back to the 15th century. The park is a short walk from the city centre – how to find it?  Just follow all the pipers and drummers dondering along the streets, they know where they are going. We (mcleanscotland) have assisted so many bands from around the world for the worlds. Accoms and coaches, we love it!
